Chef Son Jong-won’s Restaurants: L’Amant Secret and Eatanic Garden

[Black & White Chef] Chef Son Jong-won’s 2 Michelin Restaurants: L’Amant Secret vs. Eatanic Garden

Hello. This is JH from My Korean Guide.

If you watched Netflix’s Black & White Chef, you likely noticed a judge or chef with a gentle demeanor but sharp insights. That is Chef Son Jong-won.

He is currently one of the most respected chefs in Seoul, leading two Michelin-starred restaurants simultaneously. Interestingly, his two restaurants have completely different vibes: one is dark and romantic, while the other is bright and botanical.

Here is a guide to help you decide which one to visit.

1. L’Amant Secret (Myeongdong)

  • The Vibe: “A Secret Lover in Paris”
  • Location: L’Escape Hotel (26F), near Myeongdong Station.

As the name suggests, L’Amant Secret feels like a hidden hideout for lovers. The interior is decorated with deep red velvet and romantic lighting. Chef Son showcases “Contemporary Western” cuisine here, using Korean ingredients interpreted in a French style.

  • Signature Dish: The appetizers come on unique cards illustrating a story (like a kiss).
  • Recommended For: Couples celebrating an anniversary or a romantic dinner date.

2. Eatanic Garden (Gangnam)

  • The Vibe: “A Beautiful Garden in the Sky”
  • Location: Josun Palace (36F), Gangnam.

In contrast to L’Amant Secret, Eatanic Garden is flooded with natural light and features a stunning panoramic view of Gangnam. The name combines “Eat” and “Botanic.” Here, Chef Son presents “Innovative Korean” cuisine. He reinterprets traditional foods like Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) and Ju-jeon-bu-ri (Korean snacks) into modern art.

  • Key Point: The fermentation lab at the entrance shows his dedication to Korean flavors.
  • Recommended For: A luxurious lunch with a view or impressing business partners.
