The Godfather of Korean-Chinese Cuisine: Chef Hou Deok-juk’s “Haobin”

In Black & White Chef, even the most arrogant chefs bow their heads to one man: Chef Hou Deok-juk. He is a living legend who led the Shilla Hotel’s Chinese restaurant, Palsun, for 42 years and served former presidents. He is famous for introducing “Buldojang” (Monk Jumps Over the Wall) to Korea for the first time.

If you want to taste the pinnacle of classic Chinese cuisine, you must visit his current restaurant, “Haobin.”

[Signature Menu & Prices] This is a high-end hotel restaurant. Prices are high, but the quality is guaranteed.

    • What is it? A legendary soup with shark fin, abalone, and rare herbs simmered for hours. It is Chef Hou’s signature dish that revolutionized Korean dining.

    • Gung Course: 160,000 KRW
  • Dinner Courses:

Restaurant Name: NUWA (누와)

  • Vibe: A trendy “Chinese Dining Bar” rather than a traditional restaurant.
  • Must-Try:

2. The “Chinese Witch”: Chef Lee Moon-jeong

  • Identity: She appeared in Black & White Chef Season 2 with the nickname “Chinese Witch.”
  • Restaurant: She worked as a chef at Grand Walkerhill Hotel’s “Geumryong” for 25 years but has recently resigned.
  • Status: She currently does not have a private restaurant and is preparing for her next step. If you want to taste the style of food she made, visiting Geumryong (Walkerhill) is still a good option to experience her legacy.
